Operetta in two acts and a prologue by Leo Fall, words by Victor Léon
FIRST NIGHT: July 24th, 2010
Matthäus Scheichelroither´s son Stefan is able to study medicine in Vienna due to the financial support of the rich farmer Lindoberer. When he returns to his village in Upper Austria he has changed: He would like to marry Friederike, the daughter of Grumow, a wealthy man from Berlin. Stefan´s sister Annamirl also believes that her boyfriend Vinzenz, Lindoberer´s son, is no longer good enough for her. Back in Vienna where Stefan lives and works, his relatives appear unexpectedly. Stefan is embarrassed. Despite of the condescending attitude of Friederike´s parents Stefan’s wife totally defends her husband and his background. Finally both families unite in a happy ending since “everyone must carry his own load”. Fall beautifully integrated rural music in his operetta.
