THE GYPSY PRINCESS
Operetta in three acts by Emmerich Kálmán, words by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach

FIRST NIGHT: July 17th 2010

The chanteuse  Sylva Varescu is about to leave Budapest for a big tour through the States. She is madly in love with the aristocrat Edwin, the son of the Prince of Lippert Weylersheim, who is embarrassed about his son`s attraction to a lady who is not of a noble family. He sends Edwin a note in which he announces his son’s engagement to the young countess Stasi. Although recently married to Edwin Sylva now suspects that Edwin has betrayed her and leaves him without saying a word. Back in Vienna disguised as Count Boni’s wife Sylva attends a party at which Edwin’s engagement to Stasi is officially announced.  As Edwin and Sylva see each other again their love grows with inflamed new  passion. As it turns out theirs is not  the only socially inacceptable relationship in the Lippert Weylersheim family... Hits like “Joj Maman, Bruderherz, ich kauf mir die Welt...” has made this Kálmán classic an evergreen of the operetta repertoire.
